What Is CRT?

Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) is a way of teaching that values students' cultural backgrounds, life experiences, and identities as important parts of the learning process. CRT doesn't treat all students the same. Instead, it links lessons and teaching methods to what students already know and care about, which makes learning more relevant and important. Students are more likely to get involved, participate, and remember what they learn when they see themselves in the material and feel that their teacher understands them. CRT not only helps students do better in school by forming strong relationships, valuing different points of view, and making classrooms welcoming to everyone, but it also creates a sense of belonging and motivation that leads to deeper, longer-lasting learning.
